Stukenia pectinata Found in Harvey's Lake
Warren Williams contacted the Association in early August of 2007 to report a plant growing in the water in front of his camp that he had not seen before. Specimens were obtained and sent to the Dept of Environmental Conservation (DEC) for identification. The samples were identified as Stukenia pectinata, a native aquatic plant commonly known as "sago pondweed." It prefers alkaline waters and is found in many waters throughout the state. The sighting is a new record for Harvey's although a plant in the same group, Stukenia has been known to be in our lake. The DEC keeps a database of species found in lakes throughout the state and Stukenia pectinata has been added to the Harvey's Lake database.
